I keep hearing a lot about this Deepwater Horizon kerfuffle. At first I thought it was a follow up to that space movie with Sam Neil. Apparently not. Instead of space demons, there are tens of thousands of barrels of oil are pouring into the gulf each day. With no end in sight, a legion of engineers, specialists and volunteers are working on ways to stop the spill and mitigate the damage done to the ocean and the surrounding ecosystems.

Meanwhile, in Cantfindmyasswithbothhandsastan, two shining voices of leadership boom out across the horizon and offer insight to those who continue to worry.

Robert Adley:

“All of us are well aware of the problems we have faced across the Gulf Region since the tragic explosion and sinking of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil rig off the coast of Louisiana. Thus far the efforts made by mortals to try to solve the crisis have been to no avail. It is clearly time for a miracle for us.”

[Source]

Sarah Palin:

“Gulf disaster needs divine intervention as man’s efforts have been futile. Gulf lawmakers designate today Day of Prayer for solution/miracle”

[Source]

I guess the mantra is now “Drill. Spill. Pray, baby, pray!*”

(* Easily confused with Palin’s stance on birth control.)

PC Mag takes a closer look at it.
A while ago, a friend recommended a BBC documentary called The Atheism Tapes. It’s a series of interviews with several philosophers and scientists.
Giant Bomb shows off Borderlands in a quick look and also posts a full review of the game. I’m looking for to this but I think I’m going to wait and pick it up later in the year during a Steam weekend deal. Assuming there is one.

The Zombie Survival Guide according to Left 4 Dead 2.

Dealing with a lot of nerds in your life? Perhaps you will find The Nerd Handbook useful. I particularly enjoyed the bit about nerds and their “annoyingly efficient relevancy engine.”

Merlin Mann talks about Makebelieve Help, Old Butchers, and Figuring Out Who You Are (For Now). Insightful, sincere, and funny as usual.
